Are you keeping up with the latest developments in environmental health? In a fast-moving sector, staying current isn’t optional - it's essential. CPD helps you stay ahead.

We offer a wide range of events and learning opportunities that count towards your CPD. Visit our events page to find the right option for you.

What is CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. It covers any learning or training that enhances your knowledge, skills and ability to perform your role effectively.

You are responsible for recording your CPD activity. You may be asked to provide this as part of an audit or membership application, so it’s important to keep your records up to date.

Why CPD matters

  • Build new skills
Develop practical knowledge that supports career progression and opens up new opportunities.
  • Boost your employability
Up-to-date expertise gives you a competitive edge and shows employers your commitment to professional growth.
  • Increase confidence
Greater knowledge leads to stronger performance, helping you take on new challenges and succeed in your role.

Do I need CPD?

Most CIEH members are required to complete a set number of CPD hours each year. This applies to all members except student, affiliate and retired categories.

Meeting CPD requirements is a condition of CIEH membership and forms part of the quality standard we uphold across the profession.

Chartered status CPD declaration

Chartered Environmental Health Practitioners must make an annual declaration confirming they have met their CPD requirements for the previous year.

If you’re unable to meet your CPD requirements for any reason, please contact us at info@cieh.org.

Annual CPD audit

All members required to complete CPD may be selected for an annual audit. Each year, a sample of members from every grade is chosen at random and asked to submit their CPD record and supporting evidence for the previous calendar year.
